Loft conversions
Loft Conversions in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire & London
A loft conversion is one of the most cost-effective ways to add a bedroom, en-suite or home office — and it doesn't take any space from your garden. We convert lofts across Herts, Beds and London, from simple roof-light conversions to full mansards.
Turn wasted roof space into rooms
We look after the structural design, building regulations, fire safety and party wall requirements, so your new room is safe, compliant and properly signed off.
Most of the work happens from scaffolding, so disruption inside your home is limited until the new staircase goes in.

Types of loft conversion
Dormer conversions
The most popular option, adding full head height and floor space with a box extension at the rear.
Hip-to-gable conversions
For semi-detached and detached houses with a sloping side roof, often combined with a rear dormer.
Mansard conversions
Common on London terraces, giving the most space; these usually need planning permission.
Velux (roof-light) conversions
The simplest and quickest option where there is already enough head height.
L-shaped dormers
Ideal for period properties with a rear outrigger, creating two good-sized rooms.
Loft en-suites
Adding a bathroom to your new bedroom for a true master suite.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission for a loft conversion?
Many dormer and hip-to-gable conversions fall under permitted development. Mansards, front-facing dormers, flats and homes in conservation areas usually need planning permission. We'll confirm which route applies.
Is my loft suitable for conversion?
As a guide, you need around 2.2m of head height from the top of the ceiling joists to the underside of the ridge. If it's less, there are often still options — a free survey will tell you.
How long does a loft conversion take?
Most dormer conversions take around 6–10 weeks, depending on size and specification.
